Games Played November 28th

November 29th, 2011

There were 4 games last night:

Dave E and Steve W played a Fog:R game.

Steve C, Steve W and Adrian played a DBMM game

Andy and Martin played WW2 using Crossfire.

I umpired a napoleonic Peninsular game using the Waterloo rules between Russ and Allen. The rules have some good ideas but we did feel that getting the initiative and firing first seemed to give you a huge advantage (as if you lose a company to shooting you are disordered and cannot fire back). I need to reread the rules (again!) to make sure we are playing it right!

Alistair and Keith played a modern Force on Force game.

Steve C and Adrian played a FoG:A game.

Anthony and Bob played a W2 naval game using Axis and Allies figures (and rules?)

Russ and Dave played a FOG:R campaign game watched by Richard and Andy.

Games Played 6th June

June 7th, 2011

I’ve been a bit lax at posting up these reports but we are still meeting each week..

There were 4 games last night:

Russ, Bob, Alistair and Allan played a Western Desert WW2 game in 6mm using Great Battle of WW2 rules.

Andy and Mike played a Russian Civil War game with Andy’s 20mm collection and used Red Actions! rules.

Dave E and Steve W played a 1635 (and a half) FOG:R game between Spanish and English.

Ray and Steve C played a DBMM ancients game.

Games Played 9th May

May 10th, 2011

There were 6 games last night:

Dave and Adrian played a large FOG:R War of the Roses game in 28mm.

Steve G and Andy played a Red Actions Russian Civil War game.

Bob and Steve C played DBMM

Nigel and Nick played Combat Commander (I think it’s called?) – ww2 boardgame.

Steve W and Russ played FOG:A with Richard watching.

Ian , Anthony, Alistair and Mike played a Saxon vs Norman Impetus game in 28mm.

Games Played 4th April

April 5th, 2011

There were 5 game last night:

Nick and Nigel played a game of Combat Commander – described as being like Squad Leader but with cards…

Russ, Bob, Adrian and Andy played a scenario based on Jena (Napoleonic Wars) using 15mm and the Grande Armee rules.

Steve G and Steve C played a DBMM game – not sure of sides – I think Steve G won.

Alistair and Keith played a 6mm Zulu Wars game using Black Powder.

Steve W, Kevin and Mike played a Marlburian 15mm game using Beneath the Lily Banners rules. It was a scratch game with 12 units plus 2 artillery batteries a side and Austrians vs Bavarians and Dutch.

The rules seemed to work well, though we are still a little unsure if the cavalry melee is too bloody as cavalry on both sides is pretty much wiped out after each melee.

The highlight of the game was wtaching Kevin panic as he saw a cavalry squadron sweeping to his rear past his cavalry and turning an infantry unit to fire upon it. IT damaged the cavalry badly but sadly, the unit was one of Kevin’s own Curassier Squadrons routing off the table! Having been shot by their own side they carried on routing and left the table all together…

The Austrians never quite recovered from that piece of myopia and conceded the game after losing more cavalry and an infantry battalion.

Kevin was heard to blame his optician even when it was pointed out that ONLY the Austrians has Curassier on the table…

Games Played 28th February

March 2nd, 2011

Three games:

Dave E, Steves W and C plus Adrian played a FOG ancients doubles game. Sassanids + Kushans vs Gepids + Huns.

Ray (by himself) played Russ and Bob at FOG-R. Ray had |Royalists, the enemy were (I think) Later German Catholic.

Steve G and Andy had an AK47 (first edition) game.

Games Played 21st February

March 2nd, 2011

Anthony and Alistair played a DBM game – De Bellis Mortuus. Think “Shawn of the Dead: The Wargame.” Not sure who won/died.

Steve W, Richard and Dave played FoG AM. Steve and Richard’s Goths beat Dave’s Early Byzantines.

Steve C and Steve G played DBMM, and I think it was a draw, but I’m not sure of the armies.

Nigel, Bob, Allan, Russ, Ray and Kevin played Spearhead, 1940 scenario based on the battle of Mont-St-Eloi on the days following Arras. Narrow victory for the Germans. French were second and Russ managed to lose his whole command.

Games Played 14th Feb

February 15th, 2011

There were only three games last night.

Steve W and Richard played FoG:A&M – an Indian civil war at 25/28mm size. It was shown that Indian cavalry are still crap even when fighting other Indian cavalry. Luckily, all the elephants were plastic, or else we might be paying for new tables.

Dave and Ray had a FoG:R ECW clash at 800 points, which may be our largest Monday night game to date. The table didn’t look crowded, for all that.

Steve C and Bob played DBMM, Marian Romans vs. Seleucids. Steve’s pike juggernaut with cataphract backup creamed the Roman centre but, citizens, there’s always another army where that one came from.
