Ancient & Medieval

I have about 47 DBA armies in 1:72 (mostly plastic). You know how it is with DBA armies: ten minutes later you want another one.

Since the club began its Dorylaeum project in 2006, I have become a real convert to the Ironbow Crusades rules from The Perfect Captain.

Napoleonic

15mm Austrians and Saxons (with a handful of Westphalians, Hessians, Brunswickers and other rabble) based for my own rules Throne of Bayonets

Colonial

1:72 Anglo-Zulu and (first) Anglo-Boer war (mostly plastic) which I intend (sometime) to extend into the Anglo-Egyptian war and NW Frontier/Second Afghan War. Currently use an ancient set from TTG, called Soldiers of the Queen which clunks badly, but does give plausible results. Eventually I’ll write a more up-to-date set.
World War II

A real mess this. I have Polish cavalry in 15mm (originally collected for PBI II, now mostly used for Crossfire), single-based 28mm for skirmish (mainly using USSR rules from Bolt Action Miniatures, which I like a lot because I helped to write them), and a growing collection of 1:72 (which is the scale I should have started in).

Star Wars

A big collection of Micro-Machines for Star Wars games, including up to a company of Stromtroopers, with Walkers, bikes and other support. Generally these are used with Stargrunt II, which (once you have your head around it) gives good fun games.

I also have a collection of (non-Star Wars) spaceships, but they rarely come out of the cupboard.

Lord of the Rings & Warhammer

I have an undead army for Warhammer 2nd edition that can’t have been out of its boxes for more than a decade, plus a more recent collection from the Lord of the Rings line, which has been used. My most secret vice is a large army of the old womble-style Space Marines, which has never played a game – I don’t even own the 40k rules. Don’t ask me why I bought and painted these while I let a draw full of Foundry Landsknecht sit unloved and unpainted, because I don’t know.
